I’ve been working the last couple nights on our fair pictures from last year. I decided there was no way I was going to get all the pictures onto one two-pager, so I divided it up into four pages. I have two of Ryan’s done; I’m going to finish his and then do Sam’s. I find it easier to do it that way because I can just pull out the stuff I need and take it with me to work and cut things out and slap it down. Assuming no one needs my grammatical brilliance, that is.
Anyway, here’s what’s done so far:

I based this page loosely on sketch 77 from Pencil Lines. Pencil Lines is one of my favorite sketch blogs; I really like the variety of styles the design team displays. I love these pictures of the boys at the fair, these are from the Little Hands on the Farm exhibit where they do all the “work” that a farmer would do, like plant seeds, drive tractors, and care for animals, and then they sell their produce and get a dollar to spend at the farm store. They each got a bomb pop and thought that was pretty cool. The pictures with the baby animals were taken in the new Animal Learning Center at the fair. It was pretty cool except for the huge monitors showing videos of animals being born. That part kind of grossed out my husband.
The other fair page I have done is this one:

As you can see, I’m using the same papers and embellishments throughout all the fair pages to unify them. I did this page differently than I usually do; I stuck all the pictures down, let it sit for a couple days, and then added everything else. It took me that long to figure out what to do with it! At one point I was frustrated and came very close to just slapping on a title and calling it good; but thankfully I found some inspiration because I really like how this turned out. The flourishes are hand-drawn and handcut. I think the title of this page says it all!
I’m hoping to get the other two pages done tonight but we’ll see what happens; I stayed up pretty late last night so I might have to get to bed early.
